II. Guidelines for Selecting Quartz Stone Slab

1. Do choose solid-color or fine-grained varieties; Do not pick large single-grain ones.

Visual inspection of grain size is the first step when choosing quartz countertops. Solid-color slabs or those with fine grains are generally preferable. Quartz countertops are produced by crushing, purifying and repeatedly polishing natural quartz sand. Fine-grained slabs undergo finer polishing of internal quartz sand, while large-grained counterparts have relatively coarsely processed quartz sand inside, resulting in inferior texture. Hence large-grained products are not recommended.

2. Do choose genuine quartz stone; Do not buy counterfeit versions

Appearance check alone is insufficient; authenticity verification is also essential during purchase. Some so-called “quartz stone” countertops on the market are mixtures of resin and non-quartz raw materials, featuring much poorer wear resistance and heat resistance than authentic quartz stone.

Authenticity test method: Scratch the slab surface with a metal object such as a key. If white powder peels off immediately, it is counterfeit; if a black scratch appears and can be wiped off completely, the product is genuine. Another test: heat a sample slab with a lighter for a period, then rinse it with water. An indelible yellow stain indicates low-quality or fake quartz stone, while removable discoloration confirms genuine quartz stone with reliable high-temperature resistance.

3. Do select high-density quartz stone; Do not opt for low-density alternatives

Some quartz countertops suffer from poor stain resistance and corrosion resistance due to insufficient quartz crystal density inside. Easy color penetration and oil absorption are typical signs of low density. A simple on-site test: dab a small amount of white vinegar on the slab surface. High-density quartz stone produces no bubbles, whereas low-density versions contain excessive calcium compounds that react with acid to generate visible bubbles.

4. Do pick highly stain-resistant slabs; Do not choose poor stain-resistant ones

Standard qualified quartz stone delivers reliable anti-stain performance. To test it, draw lines on the slab with a permanent marker or drop soy sauce on the surface and let it fully dry. If marks can be wiped clean effortlessly, the slab has strong stain resistance; permanent stains mean poor performance and should be rejected.

5. Do choose 2.0 cm thickness; Do not accept slabs thinner than 1.5 cm

Beyond material quality, slab thickness is another vital evaluation indicator. Practical application proves countertops with a thickness of 2.0 cm or thicker are more stable, durable and crack-resistant. Slabs thinner than 1.5 cm are not recommended, as insufficient thickness leads to weak mechanical properties, and the countertop is prone to cracking during chopping meat and other heavy operations.
